Chinese New Year was crazy.

i was working night shift on CNY Eve, came home in the morning of Day 1, slept for only about 3 hours then i had to get dressed for people to come to my house.

(including ourselves) 13 adults + 4 kids + a crying baby.

the house was in a mess!

daddy was the chef, mummy was the host, and i became a part-time waitress. walking to and fro the kitchen, handing out food and drinks, making sure there's enough cutlery for everyone, clearing the table and dishes, nearly non-stop till they left.

next day, i continued some house chores in the morning, left for baby's place to bai nian and to another relative's place. by evening time, i was so shagged out that i skipped another relative's place and went straight home to sleep.

anyway, i'm SO GLAD that Chinese New Year is OVER. yeah, sure i was the only lucky one who was off on CNY Day 1 and 2, so i get to go bai nian and collect ang baos. but when i return to work on Day 3, it was all-hell-broke-loose. the crowd was crazy. the workload was crazier. endured 5 days of torture without taking MC, just to get that $200 reward. i always know money never come easy, but this $200 was probably the hardest to earn!

now i'm looking forward to the next payslip that will bring a BIG SMILE to my face! :D

his was a young boy known as 'Master Michel Marcel Navratil', aged 3, accompanied by his father and brother, travelling on Second Class.

no photography allowed, but i managed to sneak one in, anyway...

by the end of the exhibition, we came to a wall with a name list of the actual passengers, then on board Titanic, sorted by Class in alphabetical order. we're supposed to find our given passenger's name to know whether "we" have survived or died.

... and "we" survived! :D

4 years ago (2007), i brought my parents to 海天楼 at Pan Pacific Hotel, for their birthdays.

my financial situation wasn't good back then. as i was still studying, my only income was my monthly allowance and extra money earned from part-time jobs. it wasn't much, but i managed to save up enough to bring them out for a nice dinner. i can only afford the cheapest set meal. i felt bad, so i made a promise to my parents... that someday, when i earn more money, i'm gonna bring them back to this place again and order the most expensive set meal.

4 years later (2011), i finally fulfilled my promise.

when we get tired, we'll rest and bitch about stupid teachers who can't teach for nuts and still give so much homework, the "chio-bu" girls who act like queens and how we wish we could kick their ass, the "yan-dao" boys and how we wish they'll notice us, friendships and school crushes, blah blah blah.

it's amazing how we never run out of things to say; there is always something to talk about every single day.

organized a Wii / Kinect session with my colleagues at PlayNation, but this time, i decided to check out the one at Princep Street instead.

fruit popsicles to cool off under the hot sun!

we started with 'Rayman Raving Rabbids' on Wii. then we switched to Kinect and played 'Dance Central'.

Gameplay involves the player performing given dance moves which are tracked by Kinect and represented on the screen by one of eight in-game avatars. The game features over 650 different dance moves spanning over 90 dance routines. There are five modes available:

Workout Mode: An extension to regular mode in which the number of calories burned are also tracked, along with the workout time.

took LOADS of videos (of the guys dancing) and laughed my ass off at Alex, who was the "best" dancer i've ever seen! LOL!!

then we went on to play Kinect Sports. i took a break and watched Alex compete against Horus on track and field, laughed like hell at the Hurdles stage, because it made them look damn ridiculous! played volleyball against Peggy, table tennis against Gary, and boxing against Horus.

boxing is my favourite, even though it's just punching the air. we ended up playing 3 rounds of it, and i'm PROUD to say that... I BEAT A GUY IN BOXING!! WHAHAHAHAA~~

me and AJ decided to try something new...

$20 per hour; freaking expensive! looks fun, but it's actually more tiring than a bicycle. my advice: once is enough.

i recommend trying this Hopper instead; it's much cheaper and more fun...

korean BBQ dinner at Ju Shin Jung East Korean Charcoal BBQ Restaurant. OMG just LOOK at the spread (and Adrian's hungry pig-face)...

but it's very healthy because they have a LOAD of vegetables, tofu, and not forgetting, kimchi...

a variety of meat...

their service is very good, especially for lazy people like me. know why? because the waitress will barbecue for you. shiok right?? :P

lastly, sweet and juicy watermelon! i love my fruits when it comes in this shape...

we went on a date and she introduced me to PlayNation at SCAPE.

it was 4 hours of non-stop fun and exercise!

Wii and Kinect consoles...

our cubicle...

started off with Kinect Sports.

Cheryl recommended volleyball. it was good exercise; dashing back and forth, jumping up and down. i decided to try football, which was a little confusing, because our roles would constantly switch to different players on the team; sometimes you gotta block, sometimes you gotta kick. we finished off with track and field; there are 5 stages -- Sprint, Javelin, Long Jump, Discus, and Hurdles. good thing we picked that last, because it's DAMN TIRING!!

i think this whole body-motion-sensor thing is FREAKING COOL; it feels almost like you're in the game, without the hot sun! :D

then we switched to Wii and played a very stupidly lame game call 'Rayman Raving Rabbids'. i kept laughing at the rabbids; raving mad gibberish rabbits with bulging eyeballs. i think they're so cute!

switched back to Kinect and played this adventure game that looks like an obstacle course, which involves a lot of jumping and dodging.

it's been a long time since we had a heart-to-heart talk with each other, and i'm really glad we did. Cheryl have always been a good listener and adviser to all my problems... struggling through studies, troubles at work, on-going family issues, complicated friendships and love woes.

same age, but her mentality is so much more mature. sometimes i feel like a kid next to her.

i need to grow up.

if you'd noticed in recent pictures, my hair looked exceptionally DARK.

after all the crazy colours i've tried in the past -- purple fringe, green tail, brown base and golden brown highlights, copper brown, bright red, hazelnut brown, magenta...

and now...

BLUE-BLACK!

it's supposed to look black indoors and dark blue outdoors. (apparently, the bluish tint only shows up under sunlight.)

to my disappointment, it didn't seem to work that way.

i walked back and forth in front of my 2nd-storey balcony, under the FREAKIN' HOT SUN...

"can see, can see?? got anot??"

while mummy stood at the balcony, staring down at the top of my head.

"hmm... ummm... ehhh... NO LEH."

DAY 4: 15th JUNE (WED)

it's Free-And-Easy' day! :)

we lazed in bed longer, took our own sweet time to get dressed and slowly enjoyed our last breakfast.

everyone had different plans:

Horus and Mickey decided to do some last-minute shopping for souvenirs.

Peggy went to do hair-braiding.

Gary and i wanted to try para-sailing at the beach. but strong winds started blowing and began to rain heavily, so para-sailing was canceled. disappointed with the weather, me and Gary returned to the hotel to wait for the others.

the last to come back was Peggy, who gave us all a shock with her new hairdo...

the guys started calling her Ronaldo! LOL.

before checking out, we combined all the small change and notes that we have, with some extra contribution from myself, and gave the hotel staff a BIG FAT TIP. because we were VERY impressed with their service, especially the birthday cake.

mini bus came to fetch us to the airport...

Peggy dozed off (yet AGAIN) in the plane, and the guys, with their cameras on stand-by, never failed to miss a single moment of her unglam-ness...

@ Phuket, Thailand

DAY 3: 14th JUNE (TUE)

another exciting day ahead -- Island Safari Tour!

buffet breakfast at the hotel restaurant, as usual. mini bus came to fetch us to the safari camp site. still sleepy in the morning + not enough sleep (again)...

as we began our forest trekking...

SI BEI TIRING AHH...

but our efforts paid off, when we finally reached the waterfall...

the water was super clear, super refreashing, and SUPER COLD!! *BRRR*

i decided to be their photographer (partly because i wanted to remain as dry as i could)...

i didn't managed to remain very dry, ANYWAY, because they still splash water at me despite i was holding their cameras!

happily drenched...

played Flying Fox, drove an ATV, and Water Rafting.

didn't managed to take any photos of our own, because we had to keep all our belongings in a locker. but they have in-house photographers who helped us all took some photos as a momento.

rafting was SUPER FUN!! riding the strong currents and bumping on huge rocks every now and then. my dear friends announced that it was my birthday, and everyone sang birthday song for me as they filled up their helmets with water and splashed it on me. it felt like the Songkran festival (water festival in Thailand).

had a delicious buffet lunch by the river.

our package also includes a Fish Spa. a lady washes our feet for us, then we choose which fish we want, and dip our feet into the tank.

pure enjoyment for Gary and Horus, who even laid back to nap after this...

but ULTIMATE TORTURE for Peggy, Mickey, and me...

we really tried our very best to stop laughing, just to take this picture...

then that's it. i was in a state of hysteria for a good 5 to 10 minutes, laughing my ass off like a hyena, grabbing their arms like i was in labour. should've had it on video, they said.

my first time riding on an elephant, and i felt really REALLY bad. we all felt sooooo bad, we bought bananas for the elephant.

imagine wading through a filthy stinking river that is about 90% your own pee, with your own poo floating around, and having to carry a sedan chair and 4 humans on your back.

you'd think it's comfy eh?

it feels like you're in a rocky boat; don't take it if you've got motion sickness. (i really admire those guys riding the elephants; they do it everyday for hours!)

AND you don't know where to place your feet, because anywhere on the elephant seems wrong; you'd think it's gonna hurt the poor mammal.

THEN you might wanna take off your slippers, thinking that your own human sole is softer than a shoe sole, and therefore, wouldn't hurt the elephant so much. BUT when you realised that the elephant skin is so rough and prickly, you'd much rather wear back your slippers.

never mind those, here's the big issue -- the water level reaches the elephant's tail, and each time it swishes its tail, it also swishes some of that "river water" on us.

LIKE... EWWWW~~!!

so glad i was sitting between Horus and Mickey, because whichever side it flicks, i don't get it as much as the ones sitting on the sides. but stupid Horus keeps wiping it on ME! and in the midst of playing, I DROPPED MY SLIPPERS INTO THAT FILTHY RIVER!!

LIKE... DOUBLE EWWWW~!!

the elephant behind us (carrying Gary and Peggy) picked it up for me, and they were laughing.

after the elephants dropped us off, i literally sprinted to the toilet to wash my slippers. end up missing the monkey show. but i managed to catch the elephant show on videos. the highlight of their performance came towards the end, when they asked for volunteers from the audience to try their "elephant massage". again, my dear friends started shouting that it was my birthday, and i was sabo-ed to go for it.

MY GAWD~ IT WAS WHACKING MY HEAD!! *SOBZ* (...as if i wasn't stupid enough already.)

i don't know how to describe what do elephants smell like, but one thing is for sure -- I DEFINITELY SMELL LIKE THEM AFTER THE MASSAGE.

the show ended and the crowd dispersed. Mickey and Peggy wanted a picture with the elephant a.k.a my "masseur"...

as i was walking off, it made a trumpet sound and gestured its nose at me, as though it was calling me.

Peggy started saying, "AWW~~ look! the elephant remembers YOU!"

it's pretty amazing. i mean, the elephant remembers its customer! (still thinking about the head-whacking "massage")

on second thoughts, maybe it's because i SMELL like one of them. -.-"

so anyway, i went over to the elephant, and GUESS WHAT??

IT SNEEZED PEE-SAI ON MY ARM.

MUCUS. ELEPHANT MUCUS.

disgustingly wet and slimy greyish stuff.

EWWWW EWWWW EWWWW~!!

then Peggy tried to play with this "cute" monkey, but it became "not cute liao" after it snatched her grass necklace and ATE IT. haha~ cheeky monkey...

back at the hotel, we showered and changed for dinner. since it was our last night in Phuket, we decided to go for better food.

all refreshened up...

The Port, an outdoor bar restaurant by the beach, offering a variety of seafood, asian, western, and thai cuisine, as well as liquors and wines. they have a stage, where a live band plays and sings there every night...

a toast to my birthday, to my friends, to this trip...

to commemorate our last night at Andaman Beach Suites...

the moment we stepped into the lobby, the receptionists at the counter recognized us, and asked which of us is "Miss Chan". then they presented me with another birthday surprise -- a blackforest birthday cake, and wished me a happy birthday...

VERY IMPRESSED WITH THEIR SERVICE.

we brought the cake up to our room. i went to shower, came out of the bathroom, and found 2 cherries missing from my cake! :(

but never mind, IT'S STILL MY HAPPIEST DAY EVER!! (and i know who are the "culprits". LOL.)

i cut the other half of the cake and shared them with the hotel staff, to thank them for the pleasant surprise. on my way back to the room, a thought came across my mind.

recalling 2 days before this trip, something made me wished i had booked the flight to Germany instead. if i had changed my mind back then, maybe i would be somewhere in Germany on this day, maybe eating German sausages and drinking German beer.

i don't know if i'll be happier.

but if i were to choose again, between Germany and Phuket, i would still choose to be where i am now. :)

DAY 2: 13th JUNE (MON)

all ready for a day of fun in the sun -- Phi Phi Islands Tour! :D

had buffet breakfast at our hotel restaurant, while waiting for the mini bus that will fetch us to the jetty.

still sleepy and stoney in the morning...

me and Peggy attempted to look as awake as possible...

the speedboats that we'll be getting on...

in the boat, the guys whipped out their cameras...

despite the rocky waves and strong winds, we managed to get a GREAT shot of our group (now looking MORE awake)...

i love Mickey's white-framed sunglasses; it made me look like some celebrity trying to hide from the paparazzi! hahaha~

the 1st island has a small but beautiful beach, with amazingly soft fluffy white sand and unbelievably crystal blue waters...

while me, Peggy and Mickey were happy just to be by the main beach, Gary and Horus went to further explore the island...

this is what i call "embracing nature"...

i think they found themselves on a more isolated part of the beach...

it's SO BLUE, it doesn't even look like WATER!!

the 2nd island was more deserted, with a much smaller beach but more greenery. equally beautiful beach...

i'm a very "down-to-earth" person; this pictures is proof...

we know we won't get to do this in Singapore, so this is our only chance to climb trees...

the sand was sooooo SOFT, we actually had trouble writing these...

and the water, CHECK OUT ITS CLARITY!!

finally, the highlight of this island tour -- SNORKELLING!! (life jackets and snorkelling masks provided)

we stopped by another island for buffet lunch, and then head off to our last island. most of us dozed off in the boat...

didn't realised i was hugging my life jacket like a bolster...

i guess they intentionally saved the best for the last.

this was the MOST MOST MOST ENJOYABLE experience. a long stretch of beach, rows and rows of colourful beach umbrellas and beach chairs...

hippy music playing from the beach bars behind, which serves mouth-watering ice cream, thirst-quenching beverages and interesting cocktail mixes. their super-friendly waiters comes over with the menu hung over their necks (which is kinda cute) and you just point to them what you want.

i must say that i was very impressed with their efficient service.

you don't have to look everywhere, or wave your hands wildly, or even get off your chair, just to get the waiters' attention. they would patrol the beach, look out for every customer, clear the empty glasses and always ready to take another order.

my Pina Colada came in a BIG-ASS coconut with a pretty orchid flower by the side...

Horus and Mickey moved their chairs out to the sun for some tanning while entertaining us...

dripping wet all the way back from the jetty to our hotel. we showered and went out for dinner...

even though it was just a typical road-side stall, the food was good and the service was just as good.

we were almost done with dinner, when a little girl came to our table and went to each one of us, hung a flower garland and gave a little kiss on the cheek.

just as we were thinking how ab-so-lute-ly SWEET this little angel was, she pointed at EACH of us and went...

"100! 100! 100! 100! 100!" in mandarin.

LOL.

for a moment, we went into a state of SSS (Surprised + Shocked + Speechless). then we started laughing and each paid her 100 baht.

at about 12 midnight, they all hung their flower garlands on me to celebrate my birthday. although it was just a simple gesture, i was very happy.

took a night stroll down the streets of Phuket's Patong Beach Road.

turned into an alley with a whole stretch of clubs and bars and pubs. in the day, this alley looks like an abandoned street, dead and quiet. but at night, it comes to life with neon lights, loud music, and cheerings coming from all around.

i know they wanted to get me dead drunk that night. but everyone was too tired to party, after a day of snorkelling. in fact, we were so lazy to walk back to our hotel, we took a tutu again...

you can never do this in Singapore taxis...

back in the hotel, they started acting all mysterious in the guys' room, refusing to let me in. when they finally opened the door, they sang me a birthday song as i walked in and presented me with my birthday surprise...

2 slices of blackforest cake from Starbucks, the "HAPPY" word and smiley made with MacDonald fries and "B'day" word made with chilli sauce.

THE MOST UNIQUE BIRTHDAY "CAKE" I EVER HAD! :)

honestly, i wasn't expecting anything special on that day. i'm very happy to have them with me on this trip, and i think that's good enough for a birthday.

upon arrival at Phuket International Airport, we collected our luggage and head out to the exit, where our driver was waiting for us.

we were wondering, how would the driver recognize us??

apparently, we're supposed to LOOK for the driver ourselves, and it didn't take long. because he stood at the exit holding up this piece of paper...

IT'S SUPPOSED TO BE MY NAME... WITH A TYPO ERROR!!

according to Horus, if you pronounce 'Char Chiew Kee' in hokkien-style, it means 'fried tree branch'. apart from myself and the clueless driver, everyone laughed like mad.

in the mini shuttle bus, Mickey and Horus whipped out their cameras and started taking photos of each other and everyone else.

i managed to get inter-connecting rooms on the 10th floor, and situated very conveniently in front of the lift lobby.

their room had 2 single beds and 1 additional portable bed, brought in by the hotel staff. they had to play 'orh-peh-som' to decide who sleeps on the extra bed. LOL!

when we fully open our balcony doors, the wind was so strong, it blew nearly everything off the bed.

spent the rest of the day exploring the streets of Patong beach, had lunch at Patong Shopping Centre, and took picture with a Thai Ronald MacDonald, who could say "sawadika"...

bought $535 THB worth of junk food (and 2 gigantic bottles of mineral water) at the supermarket. imagine if that $535 was in SGD!

the receipt, which we only understood 4 words -- 'PETTY SNOW', 'SUBTOTAL, and 'TOTAL'...

too much to carry, so we took a 'tutu' (thai taxi) back to our hotel. it's open-air and the wind was super shiok...

back in our rooms, we showered and got ready for a fun-filled night.

a mini bus came to fetch us to our destination -- Phuket FantaSea, a must-see ultimate cultural theme park, which showcases the charm and beauty of Thailand and its ancient traditions...

at the ticketing booth, intricate designs on the ceiling...

we were greeted by colourful sights and cheerful sounds coming from everywhere...

everything is so fanciful, even the toilet signages...

we couldn't stop laughing at this one...

anyway, the entertainment centre is like a arcade, with some carnival games and a souvenir shop.

this game is funny -- a chicken with eggs shooting out of its ass...

this bling bling elephant shop caught our attention, but none of us went in because it looks kinda expensive...

had our buffet dinner at 'Golden Kinaree Buffet Restaurant', a very grand-looking dining hall...

made our way to the 'Palace of the Elephants Theater'...

highlight of the night -- 'Fantasy of a Kingdom', a cultural illusion show featuring elephants.

the beginning was a little boring, but the ending was pretty good. i don't know what happened in the middle because... erm... *AHEM* i dozed off.

and Peggy too! the guys described us as "sleep until like pigs" (but at least we didn't snore).

OK, SORRY LAH!!

we didn't mean to be rude, but we really couldn't help it!

the seats were so comfy, the lights were dimmed, the air-con was too shiok, and our stomachs were a little too full from the buffet.

plus, i've been awake since 4AM that morning and only took a very short nap in the plane.

my girlfriends, no matter how busy they are, how tight their schedules were, still managed to celebrate my birthday for me.

i'm guessing it came a long way under the hot sun, judging from its *AHEM* half-melted appearance...

LOL! nonetheless, still YUMMY to my tummy!

cause it's from my beloved GFFLs (Girl Friends For Life)...

seems like the trend this year is having ONLY ONE big candle on your cake... i wonder WHY. haha~

was giving out my Phuket souvenirs when it happened...

there couldn't have been any better timing for such a beautiful thing to happen. i'm glad we were at the right place at the right time.

MY MEMORABLE 24th BIRTHDAY
@ TCC, Boat Quay

celebrated with my "twin brother", Shao Wei, who shares the exact same birth-date with me.

we met up at Chinatown for my birthday "treat" -- FOOT REFLEXOLOGY.

he calls it a "treat", i call it "SABOTAGE".

body massage is as good as torture to me, especially on the FEET! i have NEVER tried it in my entire life, and i NEVER wanted to.

i had NO IDEA that was his plan. and i said "NO NO NO" like a hundred times, when i found out.

@#$% ...NEXT TIME I'M GONNA MAKE HIM DO A WAX JOB ON HIS LEG HAIR!! @#$%

on first touch, the masseur (a very humorous uncle), knew it was my first time.

he commented to his colleague (in hokkien), "WAH this one ah... very hard very firm."

you know, like those aunties choosing meat in the market.

he was refering to my calf muscles; too tensed up, constantly straining my legs in high heels.

"girl ah, high heels no good! you don't need wear lah! you very short meh??"

i must have been the most diffcult-to-please and contradicting (not to mention, noisiest) customer in the whole parlour -- breaking into occasional giggling fits, at the same time, clutching the pillow in pain.

it's funny how every other customers in the parlour was quietly enjoying their massage... watching TV, reading magazines, even dozing off.

the masseur commented (in chinese), "too much strength, you pain! too little strength, you ticklish! AIYOH!!"

45 minutes later, we left the parlour. foot reflexology really makes a difference. every step i take feels lighter, as though i was floating.

@#$% ...I'M STILL NOT CHANGING MY MIND ABOUT THE LEG-HAIR WAXING THING!! @#$%

we walked down to Clarke Quay for drinks, but was turned off by the crowds everywhere. so we crossed over to Boat Quay for KTV-ing.

long time since i've been there. i was wondering how much it have changed, and for a moment, i really thought we were at the wrong place.

a long stretch of pubs with names that i don't understand; it's not even in ENGLISH! and the people... THE BOAT QUAY CROWD...

WHERE DID ALL THE CHINESE AH BENGS AND AH LIANS GO???

not giving up, we combed the area for a chinese pub. only a handful remains, each fully-occupied by (possibly) the ONLY chinese people on the entire street. so crowded inside, it's literally bursting.

in the end, we settled for coffee at TCC.

Shao Wei surprised me with a candle and cake. i insisted that we gotta celebrate together! :D

what i love most about rebonding -- NO MORE BAD HAIR DAYS!! :)

it is the most manageable idiot-proof hairstyle. you don't need hair spray to keep those odd sticking-out strands in place, you don't need hair serum to keep it straight and friz-free, you don't even have to comb it... and it STILL looks good!

but i never expected that, after 6 years of faithful rebonding, i finally had a different opinion.

kinda miss my old natural waves...

MY LONG-AWAITED HOLIDAYYY!!! :D

for the past few weeks, i've been dragging my feet to work while counting down to this day! work is a torture, but i also owe it to work that i get to enjoy a holiday like this.

no more turn-ins, no more credit markers, no more front money envelopes, no more annoying reports... FOR THE NEXT 6 DAYS! super shiok-ness!!

it's gonna be an enjoyable trip for everyone. no unhappiness, no awkwardness.

i promised myself.

anyway... morning flight tomorrow. gotta pack! :)

our 2nd trip to Universal Studios...

$5 per entry for the 'Hollywood After-Hours', a 30-minutes display of fireworks.

browsed through the souvenir shops and had my eyes on a very nice black and bling 'Betty Boop' cap, which i couldn't decide if it's gonna be worth the buy.

took pictures while waiting for the fireworks show...

the night ended with a cup of ice cream and a memorable walk back to VivoCity.

i wish it never ends.

unlike the past years, no more fancy restaurants and big surprises this time. but i think it's a nice change.
